Stay Green! Save Green!!

A stay at SunDog House not only reduces the impact of your Caribbean vacation on the environment, it can save you money!

Enjoy this solar-powered guest house with pool for as little as $75 a night.

Nearly Nothing New...

... under the Sun

SunDog House was not originally a ‘green’ house. We took an ordinary Caribbean home and made it into a model of sustainable accommodation.

Electricity and hot water are all provided by the sun. Most furnishings are recycled “Funky yet Functional”! Wherever possible we’ve provided earth-friendly amenities, like organic cotton bedding, organic bamboo towels, organic hemp rugs,  recycled or recyclable consumables. Even your morning cup of coffee is 100% organic and fair trade.

Not only solar-powered...

...but greener than that.

We are concerned about our watershed, the Great Pond Bay, so only natural products - no pesticides -  are used to keep crawly critters out. We just keep it clean! And we ask that you also help in this respect. You can help keep pests at a minimum by keeping food tightly wrapped, in the fridge, and by wiping up spills as soon as possible.

Additional Features

SunDog House - Solar Array

The house is grid-tied, for efficient and ample electrical storage, but all power necessary to run the household circuits is supplied by the Outback Power Systems inverter and charging system. Sufficient electricity (and more) to power the entire house is produced by 20 115watt Evergreen solar panels and an array of Concorde Sun-Xtender batteries supply uninterrupted stored power in the event the grid is down. Hot water is provided by roof-top solar collector and stored in an 80 gallon insulated tank.

Castle Nugent National Historic Site, coming soon, will be practically across the street with hiking trails to amazing views of both the north and south shores. Use our well-maintained mountain bikes to explore here, or other nearby sites. Ride less than a mile to the East End Marine Park, home of our famous Great Pond Bay where many migratory birds spend the winter.

All Creatures...

... Great and Small.

Lizards and an occasional spider are allowed free reign inside and out, to eat mosquitoes and other pesky bugs. Bright yellow Bananaquit (Sugar-birds) and darting hummingbirds feed regularly outside the kitchen window.

Canine Companions!

Sun Dog House comes complete with canine companions! And a few felines too. Rescued Cruzan “Coconut Retrievers” live here and await your company. Keep them at a distance in the fenced back yard and they’ll provide excellent security. If you prefer closer canine companionship, we’ll open the gate, allowing them in the front courtyard and patio.
